Now Bullseye Glass is in the hot seat for lead. The governor ordered the company to cease production on Thursday, after elevated lead levels were detected at a daycare south of the factory. Officials say there's no ambiguity, the dirty air came from Bullseye. The company's got a 10-day order to cease production with a variety of toxic chemicals, and that can be renewed. It's "unprecedented," according to a DEQ official.

Not all that far away, big-time polluter Precision Castparts is now facing a class-action lawsuit (just like Bullseye).

Steve Novick's got a different race than he probably planned for Tuesday night. One of Portland City Council's more lefty members will face a challenge from bookseller and housing advocate Chloe Eudaly in November, rather than architect Stuart Emmons. That follows a dramatic late surge that left Eudaly up by more than 1,500 votes over Emmons.

Drama at the PPS School Board, where the only Latina says she's been repeatedly marginalized by her colleagues.

Amid all that, the school board voted to eliminate any doubt about human-caused climate change from the district's learning materials. So that's good.

Eureka! It's the worst dude in Klamath Falls.

The City of Portland, still struggling to find shelter space, may walk back a promise to close a Multnomah Village shelter by the end of this month. Mayor Charlie Hales acknowledges he'd be breaking a pledge if he does so, but says it might be the most humane option. Shockingly, some nearby residents believe their world is ending.

There's no business tax hike in the city budget, but a labor-back movement to install a statewide corporate sales tax appears headed for the November ballot. Organizers say they've collected around 125,000 signatures, which is far more than the 88,184 valid signatures they'd need. Expect robust opposition.

The San Francisco police chief is gone, after the latest officer-involved shooting of an unarmed minority citizen. This follows racist text messages by cops down there, and other high-profile incidents.

Meanwhile, the NYT got ahold of body cam footage of Georgia police repeatedly Tasering a hallucinating man until he died.

The EgyptAir flight that plunged into the Mediterranean on Thursday was "swerving violently and flying in a circle" before the crash. Which is a bad sign. Egyptian officials, notably, are acknowledging terrorism might be involved.

I acknowledge this is how weather is supposed to be in May, but it still bums me out.
