Good Morning, News: The Senate Fails, Lead At Community Centers, and Donald Trump's Bewilderingly Bad Campaign

You know the incremental gun control laws the Senate convened to consider last night? Just several common sense measures that would, for instance, keep people suspected of potential terrorist ties from purchasing firearms? They never stood a chance. We all knew that.


What's the latest with lead in the water you ask? Well, Portland Parks and Recreation ran tests this month at four facilities that play host to lots of kids. It found at least one elevated lead reading at three of them.

Oh! And two teachers at a North Portland school have lead in their blood—one severe enough that she requires medical attention. It's not possible right now to conclusively tie those to their school, Peninsula K-8.

Why'd Donald Trump summarily jettison his campaign manager yesterday? At least partly because his campaign is basically a joke compared to what Hillary Clinton's gotten off the ground. Trump's trailing badly in terms of fundraising and overall organization. "The worst financial and organizational disadvantage of any major party nominee in recent history," says the NYT.

There's..a lot in the Federal Election Commission data that story's based off. Including, apparently, indication that Trump is paying the Mad Men dudes for web ads?


Also, did you hear about the British guy who tried to grab a cop's gun and shoot Trump over the weekend? He'd been planning it for like a year.

The city investigation into the near month of silence after Police Chief Larry O'Dea shot his friend on a camping trip has apparently now grown to encompass four assistant police chiefs, including Donna Henderson, who's leading the Portland Police Bureau while O'Dea's under investigation.

Snap. In LA, apartment owners are being charged with crimes for kicking out long-term tenants and listing units on Airbnb.

As if running a marathon weren't already the worst, one lady in New Mexico got mauled by a bear after running around 23 miles.
