Make it official: The Republican Party has nominated Donald Trump for president.
And now the New York billionaire has completed a remarkable rise from political outsider to major party nominee for the White House.
New York put him over the top in the delegate count Tuesday night at the Republican National Convention.
We watched the count roll in from a bar a few blocks away from the convention. Three people wearing Trump gear and two guys from New Jersey who are definitely off-duty cops (but denied it) watched the pageantry from the bar.
When the count became official, the reaction in the bar was, like so much else here this week, anticlimactic. No one cheered or reacted much at all. On TVs above the bar, Trump's kids' smiled and waved. "Royals" played over the speakers.
Soon after, a band of evangelicals who've been roaming around with signs and bullhorns, appeared outside the bar, warning of heresy. "America," one sign read, "God hates your sins."
