And we are ending with a good news/bad news sort of thing. After 23 years in business, Johnny Sole is closing their doors for good. From their press release:

In 2014, the Woodlark Building was sold to developers with the intention of converting the space into a hotel. Johnny Sole initially planned to relocate to 800 SW Alder, formerly Reynolds Eyewear, but recently decided to close.

This is not to say their hands were forced or that they lacked agency in the decision. John Plummer notes that “high rent and competition weren’t the tipping point,” and that “the developer’s proposed buyout was the most viable option for all parties.” Though they could have re-opened in a new space, they were ultimately more excited about the prospect of new endeavors.

“We’re happy, and really looking forward to what’s next,” Gretchen Plummer beams when customers ask. After twenty-three years of wholehearted support from the community, they feel pleased with their decision to close Johnny Sole on a high note, and grateful for the store’s long run.

That's the bad news. The good news is that they will host a major closeout of all stock and fixtures, and will remain in their 815 SW Alder location until everything is gone. Get there now!!!
