Head over to Stereogum today to stream Pure Plush Bone Cage, the first full-length from Portland musician Harrison Smith's project Turtlenecked. Smith—who is, full disclosure, a friend of mine—originally self-released the album on Bandcamp last spring, but will be re-releasing it via local label Good Cheer Records this Friday. Pure Plush Bone Cage is 12 tracks of experimental art punk that's both meticulous and feverish, the kind of controlled chaos that almost seems mechanical until Smith croons something humanizing like "Charlie told me I can't paint like Mondrian/Worse than broken records at moving on." Listen here, and keep an eye out for our feature on Turtlenecked in tomorrow's paper. Catch the release show Thursday 8/18 at the Clinton Street Theater.
