Portland designers collaborating with local dance companies is nothing new. Adam Arnold created costumes for Oregon Ballet Theater’s “Lost Dance” in 2012, and recently Cassie Ridgway (who, full disclosure, is a Mercury contributor) of Altar Houseline made costumes for NW Dance Project. She is continuing that relationship by curating a group of designers to participate in Collection, a fundraiser for NW Dance Project that will feature two looks, one spring/summer and one fall/winter, from 11 designers worn by the dancers. Designers include Amelia, Folly, Hovden Formal Farmwear, Michelle Lesniak, MOORE, Piper Dalton, Rogue:Minx, Sonia Kasparian, Tellurian Fieldwear, West Daily, and of course Altar Houseline. Dancers will perform and interpret the aesthetics and the music of each designer against the backdrop of the Hotel Modera’s living wall, and food and wine will be supplied by Nel Centro. The price is steep, but $50 of it is tax deductible, and the opportunity to see a group of talented designers collaborate with a dance company on this scale does not come around often.

The Portland Fashion and Style Awards, which take place on November 6th, will host their nominee announcement party where, as the name suggests, they will announce the nominees for the 5th annual awards show. This will include the announcement of the People's Choice nominee, as well as an introduction to the judging panel which, full disclosure, I am a part of. Light appetizers will be provided along with beverages from Eastside Distilling, Portland Brewing, and Auzriel Wines.
