NOW WITH UPDATES!!!! :)

This Friday at 7 pm (and also on Sunday, January 27 at 3 pm), the Sundance Channel airs a new series made by Nokia Music called New American Noise. It's six short films made by six different filmmakers, each documenting a local music scene around the US. There's New Orleans bounce, New York sub-rosa rap, and Los Angeles fiddle faddle (I might have made one of those up). PLUS one of the short films details the Portland shoegaze scene, and if you are thinking, "Portland has a shoegaze scene?" the answer is, are you really that surprised?

The Portland installment was directed by video director Abteen Bagheri, and includes Portland bands Sundaze (who now call themselves Soft Shadows), Appendixes, WL, and Lubec. I'm including the official, embeddable trailer above, but to get a better look at the Portland section, Paste has a much more informative video that includes some dreamy sounds and footage from Appendixes performing at Cathedral Park. Click over to watch it, because I don't know how to legally embed it here. There's also another trailer on EW, which opens with Sundaze/Soft Shadow's song "Whatever You Say."

Some things I don't know:
• Whether all six short films will be shown this Friday, or whether it is a weekly series, with one film per week.
• Also, whether these "short films" are an hour each, or a quick 10 minutes.
• Whether or not you will see any of the Portland bands by tuning in this week, or on Sunday, January 27.
• What the Sundance Channel is, and how you can watch it on your computer machine.

If one of you is able to watch this thing, maybe report back? Okay.

*UPDATE!* Thuy-Duong Le from Soft Shadows very nicely emailed me with the answers to the questions above:

• Whether all six short films will be shown this Friday, or whether it is a weekly series, with one film per week.
All six wrapped in one segment.

• Also, whether these "short films" are an hour each, or a quick 10 minutes.
6 films/6 cities/6 sounds, each 10 minutes long for the one-hour documentary.

• Whether or not you will see any of the Portland bands by tuning in this week, or on Sunday, January 27.
The "New American Noise" documentary will be aired twice on the Sundance Channel those days, in its entirety.

• What the Sundance Channel is, and how you can watch it on your computer machine.
Here is the link (sorry, forgot to include it earlier): www.sundancechannel.com/nokia.

I couldn't get that link to work, but I did find more info here. Thanks, Thuy!

Also, I have been told that following Friday's broadcast on the Sundance Channel, you should be able to stream the program in full on the film's site here.
